Low Energy Light Bulbs

Energy efficient light bulbs (otherwise known as CFLs or compact fluorescent lamps) use only 20% of the electricity ordinary light bulbs use.  Because most of the energy is used to make light rather than heat, they save a whopping 80% of electricity!

They can come in many sizes now and to help choose the correct bulbs for your lamps you can visit the link shown and download the ‘Bright Ideas got even better’ brochure to find suppliers.

These bulbs can last for 10 years or more so there is a double saving. At the moment used bulbs can be wrapped in 2 plastic bags and disposed of in normal household waste however the Highland Council are soon to start a scheme for recycling WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) at all of their recycling centres.  So you could also keep used bulbs until this is in place.

If you have broken bulbs, carefully follow the instructions in WASP’s second newsletter for disposal.
